Classroom Management Philosophy
My personal belief on a classroom management policy is that it should be simple and humane. However, with that simplicity, I find it crucial that your (the teacher’s) expectations should be articulated in a way that is clear and well understood by the whole class. The procedures that encompass each class session should be consistent and become habit for your students. In regards to disciplinary actions for when a student may become unruly, one must have a list of procedures for what happens when a student doesn’t follow proper conduct. Once a student has broken the boundary for what is behaviorally appropriate, one must “stick to his guns” and follow the procedures that he or she has listed. Being consistent and prepared for when students misbehave is essential for the classroom or the students may (and probably will) take advantage. Lastly and most importantly, the teacher must follow and model the behavioral policies, which he or she has set forth. If the teacher cannot follow his own policy, why expect others to do the same?
